family-based immigration petitions

Are you a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident interested in sponsoring a family member to immigrate to the United States or obtain permission to stay in the United States as a lawful permanent resident?  We can advise on what options are available and assist you and your family member with the complicated petitioning process.  If you are eligible for work authorization, we will ensure that the necessary applications are prepared correctly and filed in a timely manner.  If you already filed a petition and it was denied, we can assess whether an appeal from the denial might be the best course of action and can represent you in that effort.

release from immigration detention

Is someone you know being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)?  We understand that immigration detention impacts not only the individual in custody, but also family members and other loved ones.  Although release from custody is not always permitted by law, we can advise on available options and advocate for release of the individual on the most favorable terms.  That may entail communicating with government officers on behalf of the individual in custody or seeking their release through a hearing before an Immigration Judge.  We always do our best to identify the most effective solution and work to secure release as quickly as possible.

deportation defense

Have you received a Notice to Appear from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security?  If so, you may have to go before an Immigration Judge who will determine whether you should be deported (also called removal) from the United States.  We can advise you on what this process entails and what can be done to help you remain in the United States.  In some cases, an Immigration Judge can actually grant legal status which is unavailable outside of removal proceedings.  We can represent you in court and file any necessary applications.  If an Immigration Judge has already ordered your deportation, we can help you determine what options may be available.

Applications for asylum

Are you considering applying for asylum to remain in the United States?  In very broad terms, asylum allows certain people to seek refuge in the United States based on past harm or potential future harm in their home countries.  The laws relating to asylum are complex, and an unsuccessful asylum application could result in the asylum applicant being placed in proceedings for deportation.  We can discuss your situation with you and help you determine whether asylum may be a course of action worth pursuing.  If you have already been granted refugee or asylum status and are interested in applying for lawful permanent resident status, we can assist with that as well.

applications for U.S. citizenship

Are you a lawful permanent resident who wants to become a U.S. citizen?  This process is known as naturalization, and it can be difficult to know whether you qualify and how to proceed.  In some cases, particularly those involving criminal convictions, an applicant may be eligible for naturalization but also subject to proceedings for deportation.  An experienced immigration attorney can help you understand how certain laws may affect the outcome of your case and help you avoid mistakes that could result in delays and added expense.  If you already applied for naturalization and were denied, we can review your case and discuss any right to appeal you may have.
